Why does my iPhone 4 only power on when connected to power

Hello!

I recently bought an iPhone 4 as spares/repairs with a error 21 upon restore, I have read this is due to a battery fault and after trying everything else suggested, it would to be seem correct. I have tried restore mode, DFU mode and editing the HOST file.

The iPhone only powers on when connected to power which to me is the reason for it not restoring. I have tried different batteries that I know work and I have even put the battery it came with in another iPhone, so I know the battery is not at fault!

The battery connector looks to be completely attached and not messed with so this is not to blame either, the water indicator stickers are white so it has not been water damaged either.

I am at a loss at what is wrong with it :( I would guess that it is either the logic board or the Dock connector but I would like other opinions on this.

Later today I am going to replace the Dock connector board with a fully functioning one to see if this makes any difference, I did notice it was full off junk but I removed all of this with a tiny pin so that the USB cable could plug in properly.

I will comment my results once they're known, any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks

Changing the dock connector had no effect at all still refused to power on using the Battery power, I also tried leaving it on charge for over an hour but this also had no effect :(

Josh Wright, if nothing else check the "USB Fuses" and the charging coil see what you get on those.

Check them with a multimeter? On battery power or on USB power? Or both?

Check them for continuity and if you can check for the values given in the image ;-)

I had the same problem mate and same error I would buy a new battery or bring to a repair shop and ask them to fit only takes 2 minutes. New battery sorted the problem for me

As stated I have already tried a new battery :( I wouldn't want to take it to a shop either, the cheapest one near me charges around £25 to replace the battery. The battery is fine as I have tried it in a different iPhone, so I'm thinking there is something going wrong on the logic board but I am yet to investigate this theory further.

Put the phone in dfu mode then try and restore

"I have tried restore mode, DFU mode and editing the HOST file."

But yeah, I would try and replace the dockconnector, just to rule that out.

"Changing the dock connector had no effect" did not work either:-)

If you have a multimeter check the first and last pin for the battery connector. If you have continuity with those two pins then you have a bad capacitor somewhere on the board.
