Mike, what you see is the light from the individual LED's. This could be caused by a warped or bad diffuser. In order to try to fix it, you could disassemble your panel and check on the diffuser or replace the panel.

how do you check the diffuser?
to check the diffuser, you will have to disassemble the complete panel. You will find the diffuser to be the last part of the assembly, before you get to the actual backlight. Check for any warping and that it is properly seated.
