Wii U Console does not detect any Game Pads?

I'm nearly sure that my Wii U is the problem. I tried to use a friends Gamepad and it did not connect, I'm wondering if anything could have been broken on the inside of the machine that reads the signals of the Gamepad, and if there is any fix other then sending it to Nintendo. An answer as soon a possible would be nice, thanks for any help!
