Proximity Sensor Reversed Somehow

I currently did a white iphone 4 conversion and now the proximity sensor is reversed. While on a call, the screen stays on when placed to my ear and the screen would go black when I take it away. What would cause this? I followed your instructions to the "T". Could it be the product that whiteiphone4now.com is selling, something I did during disassembly and re-assembly, or is it a iphone software/hardware thing? There is a silver film behind the white glass front where the proximity sensor would read. Could this be the problem? FYI, I did not have this problem when the phone was stock.

I have the exact same problem! Also did a white conversion, somebody please shed some light!

tarafından

iSpencer (www.iSpencerHawaii.com)also has the same problem. He has yet to figure out a solution. He removed the sensor sticker and the issue still remains.

"I thought it might be the sticker so I removed it and no help there. Still same problem. I think the LCD might just be bad but I doubled up the reflective covering on the LCD with another broken LCD I had.

I can't think of anything else except that either the connectors are sending a bad signal and causing the proximity to act up. Could it be the way they made the holes for the proximity sensor on the glass?? I just can't figure this out.

Let me know if you get it working. In the meantime I got a hybrid. Haha."

Exact same situation here after white conversion!

tarafından

just installed mine and it doesn't work , these guys who sold us these conversion kits should of told us about this problem prior to purchase , chargeback time!

tarafından

In my case, the proximity sensor just simply doesn't work.

Confirmed the same issue with two different iPhone 4 white conversions.

It is because the IR signal from the proximity sensor is reflecting back from the white dots on the inside of the screen, so it is being prevented from passing through the glass, the way I solved it was to remove the mylar sticker and colour over the white dots lightly with a black marker pen, you can't see the black marker from the front but when you hold the screen up to the light and look through from the proximity sensor side you should be able to see through it and it has sort of a red look to it. This seems to allow the IR signals to pass both ways through the glass. If you look through the black glass display you will see the same sort of colour when held up to the light. Hope this helps, it solved the problem for me. Just be aware that if it doesn't work the marker pen is virtually impossible to remove without damaging the screen.

On IOS 4.1, tried the black sharpie trick too and aint working. Any other solution?

tarafından

i can confirm that using a black permanent marker and covering the little holes DOES fix the issue for the proximity sensor with the white conversion

tarafından

Do you mean to color the back part of the proximity sensor holes? meaning the side the side with the LCD? Do you just color that whole section black or just the holes?

tarafından

Thank you so much for the tip. I used a black sharpie on the dots and so far it's work. When my prox stops working reseting the phone fixes it for a while. so hopefully, this sharpie fix will prove to be a permanent fix for a fustrating issue.

tarafından

did you guys cover just the holes (ie actually dot the sharpie) or just drew a couple lines and convered the holes?

iPhoneAid removes the mylar(silvery)piece that covers the holes in front of the sensor on the front white glass replacement. On a black to white conversion, it appears to work very well in most cases. I should mention that we are using 4.0.2 OS with the conversion.

Yes It has to be removed in order to use the proximity sensor feature

Can anyone else confirm this?

I've had the same problem and solve it by doing the following!

The solution is next!

-Put a little black around the sensor, just do not cover either of the two sensors

-or just install from Cydia CallLock

a huge setback on this issue for me. I did a white conversion on a brand new iPhone 4 (with 4.2.1 software and even the new 5 point (star)m security screws on the bottom. The prox did not work on 4 different white front assys. I then put one of the white parts that did not work on my personal white iphone and the part did work. so, the part was good after all. Then I swapped out the logic board out. I took mine out and put in the new iphone 4'S logic board, and the prox stopped working. So in the end its either something with the new logic board or the 4.2.1 software. Apple did say they were going to fix the prox issue with software updates. I restored the iPhone 4 back to black and the proximuty work fine. I noticed that when its dark you can actually see the "infared light" come on in the sensor area when making calls. I did not see this infared on my personal phone. Maybe Apple dialed up the intensity on this infared light and that is what causes the prox not to work on the white assy.

So I just found 2 way to solve this problem!

1) replace your prox sensor with a new one from old stock sensor, (maybe every spare not OEM sensor will be the same as old stock one)

or

2) Install "CallLock" from Cydia to solve this problem! very nice fix!

It dawned on me that some of the proximity sensor parts are not installed. Was the glass broken before the conversion took place?

If you look REALLY closely at the proximity sensor, you should see a VERY small black square around it. It pops off and you'll see it is actually attached to a very small piece of colored glass. If this is missing, the proximity sensor will not function correctly. Most likely because it will pickup reflect light from the LCD.

Hope this helps.

I see a lot of you are having this issue... I am having several issues after converting to a white iPhone 4. Fist of all, my proximity sensor is not working at all. I have yet to test this ideas, but will be doing that tonight or tomorrow. Depends on when I get my pentalobe screw driver. The other issue I am having is, my wifi reception SUCKS. I can get wifi connected, but it has a very small range. I have tried replacing the wifi antenna on the dock/home button assembly thing. Then I cleaned all of the contacts, and I have tried re-arranging screws. I do know the EMI cover on the top of the phone has a long screw on the top middle. That really affects WIFi, but that is put in correctly and the silver conductive ring is still on there. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I appreciate your time!

hey guys!

I cut a piece of black electrical tape, I drilled the tape with a heated needle, I made two holes at 2 mm from each other, I applied the tape on the sensor, I applied the white touch, and the proximity sensor works perfectly.

my iphone is the one with the Torx screws.

What I recommend is to remove that film and then put about 5-10 dots of black sharpie on the back of the glass where the proximity sensors go. Then wipe it off with a Q-tip or napkin and that should work. Make sure to leave some of the sharpie on. It should not show through the glass. I have this done on my white iPhone 4. Works perfect. :) Hope that helps!!

I replaced the prox ribbon in my phone because the lock button stopped working and now the prox does not work. I tried 2 different new ribbons and haven't had any luck. The crazy thing is the sensors work if I plug

them in the phone "free air" but do not work when installed in the OEM location. I am talkie about a phone that has an OEM front. It's almost as if it does an initialization on restore, or the sensor is not centered correctly in the holes ( which is almost impossible). I tried

I moved it around and tried three different sensors with no luck.
