Why is the speaker making this clicking/ticking noise when it speaks?

This ( i think its a 2013) Furby Boom will speak but it makes a quiet crackling noise when it does, then it blacks out (its on my youtube, Mimi B) ive tried replacing the whole battery and it still did it. Ive heard the suggestion to check its tummy switch, only problem is...i have no idea how to get at it, or even where it is or 'how' to check it really... I'm an electronic newbie. Ack, and these things are so complex! Heelllllp!

Update (10/06/2015)

Here's a few pics of what i got so far, just started taking misc pics showing how much has been tore down thus far...

Turns out it had a bum motor, (finally my sensetive dog ears came in handy, after sitting there and listening to that clicking, i got a hunch it sounded an awful lot like a record/cd going around really fast but then really slow after that) actually the physical speaker was fine

How did you fix the motor? Mine does this too!!!!

Since i don't know how to "fix" the dying motor, i did the next best thing and got a working motor from either a 2012/boom style spinning motor and replaced it.....i have a video on how to dismantle or 'skinning' of a 2012 furby or boom, in order to get at the motor

Mimi B, here is my answer to a similar question " I would get to the "tummy switch" and check the circuit from there. You do have a couple of choices here. Check the switch, then the speaker. Check the connector for both. You will need a multimeter to check those. Follow the schematic to work on your Furby's voice, and check on here for directions on how to skin the Furby." It is possible that you have a bad speech processor on your Furby, but check the components first Hope this helps, good luck.

Id like to check it there too, also would you know what setting to have the multimeter on when checking that circuit?...i have no idea how much power goes througj all my old,2005, and 2012/boom furbys so....kinda having to start from scratch here....Furby

First you'd have to skin your Furby. Follow the first link. Then post a couple of images of what you see with your question. Adding images to an existing question

Ive got him skinned and many of its boards are uncovered now (hopefully ugh, these have so darn many), so now what?.....

Now post some pictures so we can see what you have.

Hi Mimi B,

This answer can maybe help you:

I just did surgery on my sons furby and fixed this problem. His would move and no sound would come out. Keep the Furby on and go to the right side of the Furby which is where the speaker is located. Cut a small slit in the fur, small enough that your kids won't notice. if you look underneath the fur you will see the speaker. It is plastic and it has a whole bunch of holes in it. Right under the plastic there is a membrane sort of things. I found it when I took a nail or something small and pokey that fit through the holes and gently gently pushed on the membrane in certain spots it would start making noise again. Must have a short or something in it. Once you find the spot that let's it start making noise again find a very small, about a centimeter long, machine screw which is the kind that don't have a point on the end of them but are flat instead. Screw it into the hole until it pushes against the membrane and leave it there, and that should keep it talking. This should keep your kids happy

Good luck
