Found this iPod. At first it showed picture then I updated it and it got distorted. Also it was on windows then updated on mac. Buttons still work because I can reset it using menu and center button. Tried restoring, pulling battery, cleaning board with alcohol. Do I need a new screen or logic board?

rtrigiani, you'll need a new display. Straight forward replacement without surprise. Follow this guide Replacement displays are available right here as well as many other places.

Well the weird thing is this morning I plugged it into my windows laptop and it showed the display. But then i did a reset on the iPod and it went back. Is there anyway to downgrade the software?
After not touching it for a day the display turned on. But then it wouldn't react on the click wheel only recognizes reset with center and menu.
No downgrade is going to fix that:-). Open it up using any of the guides listed above and ensure that all the ribbon cables are properly seated and the locking mechanism engaged.
Double checked yesterday and everything is plugged in. Also did another alcohol cleaning and still nothing. Doesn't look like any rips in the cables either.
I'd try a new display and/or clickwheel anyway. If it does not work, it sounds like your logic board is giving you issues.

The lcd/digitizer assembly needs to be replaced. It's impossible to separate the two, if you were gonna try going the cheap route
