Why is my tablet freezing up all the time?

My tablet will freeze randomly while I'm using it! I have turn off the display for a few seconds then push the home button and its okay for a few minutes before it freezes again. In a ten minute period, it'll freeze about 8-10 times. I have shut it off and then back on, and reset the tablet to factory settings. Neither of them fixed the problem.

Also, I won this tablet in a competition so I have no warranty. Please help!

Facebook, words with friends, and spider solitaire keep freezing. I did a factory reset last week and it is even worse now. What can I do to solve this?

Mine freezes while surfing. I have not downloaded anything. Only downloaded the regular updates.

Hi Paul Donaghey,

Have you tried a hard reset on your tab?

Be aware a hard reset will erase all your downloaded apps and user data. It will restore your tab to a factory default condition. It will be like when you first bought it.

Back up your data, using the tab's backup feature before you hard reset your tab.

Note: If you restore the tab after performing a hard reset, with the backup you made, you may re-introduce the problem back into the tab e.g. if it was a downloaded app that was causing the problem.

Ensure the battery is charged before you perform a hard reset . Do not have the charger connected when you perform a hard reset.

Here is a link that show how to do it.

http://www.hardreset.info/devices/samsun...

Be patient, it takes a few minutes.

Hi lampreyriver,

A hard reset shouldn't affect the sd card but remove the SD card to be certain. If you have apps running from (or installed) on the SD card you they may not work after a hard reset because the 'installation' information will have been lost with the reset. Just so that you are aware. All your data like pictures etc will be safe, it is only apps that will be a problem

Thanks I'll see what happens !

Hi,

You should put them back on the device and perform a backup first. This will save the all the info to your account. I'm trying to find out if there is a selective restore available This link may be of interest. http://www.droidforums.net/threads/is-th...

SD card I purchased said it's only for pictures and videos, and that SD cards don't have a way to save the app? I may have been told the wrong advice or since I bought it on wish.com and It was super cheap that there's a difference in SD cards! If that's the case let me know what I need.

Hi deb patterson,

What is the make and model number of your device and what are you trying to do?

If you are trying to move apps to the SD Card, it may or may not work.

This is NOT the fault of the SD card. It doesn't discriminate between music, pictures, videos, apps, files etc. To it data is data. The only caveat is that sometimes when trying to directly store to the SD card when filming videos having a Class 10 SD Card is better than say a Class 4 SD card (it should state the number on the card) as Class 10 cards are quicker.

If you are trying to move apps to the SD card to create more space in the internal storage of your device, the app option of 'Move to SD Card" may not be available on some apps. This depends on whether or not the app's developer has enabled this option when the app was first developed (or created if you like). It has nothing to do with the device or the SD card.

To stop my tablet 4 7.0 from freezing, I cleared the cache for everything loaded on the tablet. After a couple uninstalls reinstalls of Facebook and Messenger, it was working better. But started freezing every now and then. I uninstalled both again for a few hours. When I went to reinstall Facebook, there was an update that hadn't been there ! I did update & suddenly, after another reinstall, both Facebook and Messenger have been working without issues......so far !! Also uninstalled some apps that were " Gifts" from Galaxy I had no use for. I've got more room & the tablet is fine !!! I'm thankful a Hard Reset wasn't needed !! But I'm prepared if I must do it in the future !

Thanks for your answers, lampreyriver

Hi,

Glad you got it fixed. By 'prepared' I hope you also mean that you are making regular backups so that it will be easier to restore in the future

What about system resources being used up at 80% 90% even though apps may not be in current use they still run in the background. Secondly, what to say if game apps that are on a server by the developer and it's a server problem because of too many users may be using the same program. Or your internet connection is too slow.

There are so many variables of why apps and phones or tablets lock up.

Forcing a reset every time the unit is locked up is often counter productive. An option is to turn off apps that is not in current use if possible but, unfortunately developers set it up to make their apps inter link with apps using similar coding or template. Hence, you turn off one app but, it may mess up another app in the background. Darned if you do Darned if you don't!!

The many proposed suggestions to perform a hard reset when a device freezes/halts/hangs/hiccups (whatever you want to call it) are not a solution…it is like pouring warm water on a person who is freezing to death…it may feel good for a while, but it’s not a cure, only a remedy to bypass symptoms of a deeper problem which has to be solved by the tablet manufacturers or Google, most likely both because the problem is not limited to only a few tablet producers…some do better than others, but none are without fault…doing a hard reset doesn’t solve the problem, it only interrupts the series of events that caused the problem to occur…do a reset, and the next time the same or a similar series of events occurs it will happen again (and eventually this will happen when you go back to doing what you were trying to do previously)…we need to stop giving Google and the device manufacturers a free pass…time to put some heat on all of them to fix their sloppy work…except under extremely rare and unusual circumstances, we never see these kind of problems with iOS, Windows, or most versions of Linux…Android is still a pretender, and it takes a long time to fix a problem that no one is working on…

I was having the same problem. This may sound crazy but as I was scrolling the posts I started to press the screen a little harder. My tablet slowly started gettting back to speed. Try this….apply more pressure while typing, pressing, or scrolling. I purchased this Samsung T807 at a pawn shop today. It was freezing up as soon as I got it. It hasn't frozen once! Go to setting and change the screen sensitivity.

  1. Settings
  2. Displayed
  3. At the very last option check “increase touch sensitivity”
  4. Hope that helps.
