Popular laptop sold by HP. While it comes in many configurations, all models of this laptop have the same basic form factor. The numbers after G60 indicate the factory specifications of the laptop and who sold it.

Hi,

Without knowing the exact model number of your laptop, it may be, that given the age of your laptop, (you state that you have Vista installed), it may not even work properly with Win 10.

By this I mean that there may not be the correct Win 10 drivers available for the hardware that is installed or that the manufacturer has not provided BIOS support for Win 10 for your particular model. Therefore maybe not all the features and facilities that you have in the laptop now under Vista will be available to you with Win 10 installed, e.g. WiFi or Touchpad mightn't work for instance.

If it turns out that there is Win 7 support for your laptop it may be that it might work OK with Win 10. Also I have looked at the specs for some variants of the G60 model and they all only support a maximum of 4GB of RAM. Whilst this is enough for Win 10, in my opinion having 8GB of RAM allows for a better performing OS.

Upon further checking some HP G60 variants are supported by HP for Win 10.

So the conclusion is that it is necessary to know your exact model number to determine if an upgrade is even feasible and therefore worth the expense.

A "basic" Windows 10 laptop at Walmart is about $220.

Windows 10 license is $120.

However, you may need to upgrade parts of a Vista computer to get it to work. It is less of a headache to buy a new laptop preloaded with Windows 10.

Would like to check if your windows COA is windows 7 or Windows Vista?

If windows 7 COA, you can use it to update to windows 10, by fresh install, by specifying the windows 7 key.

Before you proceed, I would recommend you to backup important data and settings , e.g. to external hard disk / location.

Check for any possible BIOS updates too....

some consideration to take note is your specification of your computer, e.g. processor, RAM, etc.

IMO you should go for Win10 if your computer is able to support.

As Win Vista is generally not supported anymore

Once backup is done, you can consider to use a USB thumbdrive to create a win10 bootable media, from microsoft and perform a fresh install, which i normally do by deleting all partition and recreating it.

Hi Scott,

On ending support for Vista, Microsoft said, "the time has come for us, along with our hardware and software partners, to invest our resources towards more recent technologies", meaning that it will no longer receive Windows security updates, nor will developers offer support for the dated operating system.

I advise upgrading to Windows 10 if possible in consideration of security aspect, as you'll have limited access to new software and may be vulnerable in terms of online security.

I have just googled the questions and found a Windows 10 – pros & cons analysis by MiniTool, it attracted me, and I think it's great to have a clear mind on the goodness and badness of the new System. By comparison, you may get to know how to decide.

Most likely your hardware is too outdated and not worth the effort. New pcs are inexpenive.

I have windows 10 running on a Dell Inspiron 1545 pp41l that came with Vista and it works perfectly.

So yes, even this guy's old HP G60 system could support Windows 10 so some of you shouldn't be telling people it won't.

If you are worried about drivers..

Some of the windows 7 and 8 drivers will work on 10 whether you know it or not, and the inspiron works flawlessly with a combination of both. I can't imagine the HP working any worse then my crappy dell.

problems with HP G60 laptops and windows 10, include no audio video after resume from sleep, sleep mode or hybrid sleep are a no go but they can be disabled in power settings, if you close the lid the screen won't come back on but you can use an external display to power off or restart from hybrid or sleep mode. no touch pad scroll in windows 10 menus unless you use a USB or Bluetooth mouse, touch pad scroll dose work in most file system menus and web browser just fine, no audio or mic with over 3 gig ram installed if you install 4 gigs you will have to limit the ram down to 2,91 gig usable in msconfig boot menu just put a check mark in the maximum memory advanced boot tab if any one has found good fixes for any of these issues please reply
