Hi, What is the model number of your laptop? Does the DVD tray open when you press the disc eject button? This is just to prove that you have power available to the drive. Have you checked in BIOS to see if the DVD drive is being shown there?

If it won't read the disk clean the optics, if it won't recognize the disk inserted replace the drive.
