Replacing the top (shutter button) module

Hi there,

Does anybody have experience replacing the top module on this camera (including the shutter button) which the service manual refers to as part Cabinet Top Block (RL-129 Board)?

I'd be happy to hear any advice, especially since there's no disassembly/assembly instructions for this top module on ifixit.

Also, specifically on page 3-1E of the Service Manual, Assembly-3, "Adjustment Cautions of the RL-129 Board", there are some cryptic notes about adjusting the position of what looks like the function selector knob. Any advice on this? I kind of get the idea you're supposed to make sure the internal mechanism matches the function on the knob, but besides that it's pretty vague.

thanks much in advance for any help!

Matt

I fixed it!.

For future reference for anyone trying to replace the Cabinet Top Block (Shutter Module) here are some notes:

I used the ifixit instructions for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V Outer Case Replacement.

  1. I did the steps verbatim to the end of Step 11.
  2. I did Steps 13-16, skipping the Step 12 calling for disconnection of the LCD ribbon cable (it was unnecessary.)
  3. This is where I departed from the ifixit plans and did my own steps

If you look inside the back of the camera at this point, near the top of camera just below the ON/OFF button, there is a silver screw inside the camera. Unscrew this.

Gently pry open the front case away from the top module. It takes some finesse, but eventually if the front case is pried away, the top module can slide up and away from the top of the camera.

Now you need to carefully release the one end of the ribbon cable. You can either do it on the main camera circuit board, or on the Cabinet Top Block module. To do this, you rotate up the back of the rear black bar on the connector. DO NOT TRY TO PRY OPEN THE WHITE PLASTIC PART OF THE CONNECTOR. Be careful, the black plastic part can eject completely, and it is maddening to try and get it back on again. Once the black part is rotated up, the ribbon cable should just slide out.

The rest is reassembly, the same steps in reverse.

I was lucky, my camera works great! :)

@itsayellow ,Matt C , Sorry I can not help with all info. you need, what I did find was a video showing the disassembly of the camera/shutter button, not in English but fairly good detail and a guide which you may have seen already. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Thanks for the video link! It helps to see the careful disassembly. I tried the youtube auto-closed-captioning but it was more hilarious than useful.
