Slow and freezing after screen replacement

Hi there,

I have replaced a few iPhone screens over my time and until today I have had no problems.

I have changed my screen and now the phone is very slow on start up and then will freeze or respond very slowly when I try do anything on the home screen or try to respond to any pop up notifications, however when I am in the settings menu for example I can do anything with no crashing!

I have erased all content and settings, I have even tried with the old screen again and it does the exact same thing.

Thanks in advance!

I am the senior technician at Freedom Tech.Justfixit. I was able to fix this issue by hard restoring through the itunes. This issue seems to come up now and then and i was so thrilled for having resolved it without making my customer unhappy.I figured that it's necessary for me to share that experience with my fellow technicians.

I just replaced Iphone6 Screen plus home button & Ear Speaker, I have an issue with home button it takes time to react when I press it .

Could it be possible that all these super cheap screen replacements are hacked with chips to steal our information really hard to find them right it really need to put something on there like a packet sniffer to see how much data is actually coming in and out just saying,

If you're trying the original display, and it's still doing it? Then it's your phone. I'm not sure @refectio do the 7/7+ have bleeding caps? If not, like the 6S/6S+ then it's not out of the realm of possibility that you've fried something on the board....still..that almost doesn't really answer why...

Did anyone confirm a possible solution to this? Have a customer phone with the same issue. Anyone know which cap or line it could be on?

tarafından

I'm starting to doubt it's a cap or even a whole like, and it's starting to look a lot more like the cpu or the nand needs to be replaced, which the work isn't impossible, but you'd have to replace those two along with two others and a home button. It's simply not worth it

tarafından

Does anyone know what this issue is exactly? I know it's a board issue but it's becoming very common now, i have had customers bring this problem in but with the original screen intact and just told them to go to apple and they swapped it out no problem. I have now gotten a phone that a replaced the screen on a couple months back and it's having the same exact issue of freezing, and VERY slow startup.

Thanks to beerkar I also was able to solve this problem. An additional problem for me is the home button did not work, so I had to use onscreen button and Itunes to do the update.

Hi everyone. I had this issue today. I replaced the screen and the phone went crazy. First, it takes about 4 minutes to start. After that, it says home button needs servicing( it works if I remove the front camera flex). However, I still have touch ID function working. Then, opening apps is very, very slow. Once started, they work properly. Speaker is not working anymore( can't use Voice Memo) and I have no idea why- I'm blaming the software.

I did everything by the book, in the lab. All parts were removed with extreme caution, nothing fell, batery was previously removed (I never replace anything with the battery attached to the phone). The phone is a 7 Plus with a broken screen, OS11. I restored and updated to 11.0.1 but I still have the same problems. Question is, can I downgrade to 10.3.3?

You mention that you got it to work by removing the front camera flex. By chance, is the front camera flex a 3rd party replacement part? I'm having the same issues with a phone that was working fine until iOS 11. The parts replaced were the battery, the front camera, and the screen. I've ruled out the screen, because the problem persists even after reinstalling the original screen. That leaves the 3rd party camera as the likely culprit.

All right, I can confirm downgrading resolves the issue. But for now is just a "buy some time" fix, because if upgrading back to 11 or 11.0.1 with replaced parts, makes the issues reappear. Apparently 11 is very sensible to changes in hardware configuration. First time,I replaced a battery on a 7Red(product) and I eneded up with a crippled home button( no button functons, but touch id was working perfecltly). So, in short, I tested new screen with10.3.3 and works fine. Updated to 11= problems. Put back old screen(on 11)=same problems. Went back to 10.3.3 works fine. It's irelevant what you replace, you'll have problems with11.

tarafından

@cstarbird Flex was original but from another phone. Removing it just solved the button issue. Phone was slow whatever I removed/replaced. I am now waiting for a new stock of screens. I'll let everyone know how it went. Have fun :)

I also can confirm that downgrading to 10.3.3 solves the long boot, very slow app response, and no sound after replacing screen. I can also confirm that updating back to 11 = return of the above problems.

low to 10.3.3 and you will fix the problem, ios 11 has conflict with the touch ic of the non-original screens

Hey guys, i have experience issues with replacement screens for the last generation iPhones.

Try turning off the "3D Touch" to see if these problems that you are reporting disappear in iOS 11.

let me now. if this trick works.

I am a repairer. Just replaced screen on Iphone 7 running IOS11. I always connect the bare screen to test it. phone took about 3 minutes to boot up. Finally got it going, then discovered extremely slow response to touch on screen. As in touch an icon, wait 20 seconds. thought it was because I was using a non apple screen. Refitted the original apple screen, same result. plugged in the front camera, touch delay was removed. Still took 2 minutes to boot up. Connected the Home button, everything working fine on new non apple screen. My conclusions are

1. Software is looking for Home button on bootup, waits an awful long time before giving up and completing the bootup. Once running, for some reason references the front camera for any app startup, maybe something to do with face recognition. eg, future apps can be startup protected and use face recognition to unlock it. Have replaced heaps of Iphone 7 screens and never seen these issues before, but this is the first I have done running IOS11.

Much appreciated Bruce! Disconnecting the front camera before booting resolved the slow touch screen issues.

I had this slow boot up and slow app opening problem where the iphone 7 plus also had no sound after a screen change. I paid an extra $30 for a "premium" screen because this was my wife's iphone. It came with the complete ear speaker and proximity /front camera ribbon and heat sheild already installed. All I had to do was swap the home button to the new screen. I did the same as any veteran tech would do with batt disconnection before removing any screws or cables. But it created the same problem and the back of the phone became warmer than normal.

I wanted to add that I swapped back all the original OEM parts with the broken screen back on the phone and it acted normal in boot up and response to touch and sound. It operates at normal temp. It contains ISO 11.0 on the software. This was present before and after the screen swap.

I know many did not have this success when trying to trouble shoot this issue BUT either I got lucky or hopefully this will create a lead to solving this unknown issue.

Thanks for the posts everyone!

I suspect that the issue with the iPhone 7 plus is not the screen, but the front camera and sensor cable. I've ordered an OEM cable and will test it when it arrives on Monday.

iOS 11.0.3 resolves this issue!

tarafından

Seems as if you were all correct as an IOS error apparently since my last post apple released a new IOS and the company that sold the screen informed me of the software update and that they had calls. I will see. Exchanged screen anyway to be safe and did update so when new one comes we shall see if it is back to normal....

Replaced 3 iPhone 7’s this week all with the same issue. Unfortunately downgrading to 10.3.3 at this point isn’t an option because Apple isn’t signing it anymore. Really don’t want to replace the screens again to have the same issue arise any other suggestions? Super clean delicate replacements without any board damage either

Hi everyone I’m having the same issue here with a 7 plus from a friend, have replaced the screen to an original one. We are currently in iOS 13 times. I told her to try and upgrade it to the latest iOS version there’s available and if not she’ll restore it. But I wanted to know wether someone has experienced this after 2017, all the answers here are from back then. Thanks!!
