Shaking video and camera

This iPhone 7+ A1784 came in with a broken digitizer. A horse has stepped on it. No problem, I replaced the digitizer. She had forgotten the password so I couldn't get into it to test. Now it's back in, been wiped clean and no password. The camera images on both single shot and video vibrate like crazy. Even still shot taken show up with the blur in them. I would think this would have to do with a stabilizer but don't know enough about this to know what part I need. Can one of our phone pros tell me?

Hey @mayer...it's @refectio, not @ minho. There actually is an @ minho but it ain't me ;>)

Let's see...a 3000 pound animal put all of its weight on a flat slab of glass...what could go wrong? The cameras are pretty much self-contained. Any image stabilisation or whatnot is all built-in. Sure the CPU controls the thing but all of the mechanics are inside the camera.

The safe bet is to replace the cameras but they are crazy expensive!

Well, the horse only put one hoof on it, if the other three were on the ground, that would lessen the weight. Also the fact that it was in the guys back pocket at the time, padded it.

I'm not sure about 7P but the iPhone Plus lines have optical stabilization, the board processes everything and supplies digital pitch and yaw correction commands to the main camera, the camera module is responsible for actually decoding the commands and actually driving the lens.

If the camera is supplying picture but shaking, the power, command and data link to the camera is OK. The problem is mostly with the camera module itself. Try a working camera.

AND before any diagnostics can begin you need the rest of the story. First thing, the forward facing camera works properly. Secondly, the FaceTime camera was preinstalled on the display assembly.

So before anything else can be done, the phone needs to come back in, screen password left so phone can be properly diagnosed. The original Camera from the original broken screen needs to be swapped for the existing camera and ensure all connections are good. Then and only then can there be a chance to diagnose the damage left by the heavy huffed horse if the problem still exists .

Note: could also be smug between lens and screen left from when screen was assembled at factory. Highly unlikely but would need phone to check.

Not a smudge, it shakes.

A smudge can cause auto focus to oscillate trying to focus.

I just saw this notification.

iPhone 7/7+ cameras are known for extremely high failure rate specially after a drop that otherwise leaves no mark on the phone housing. Thus not surprised it failed after a horse kick.

Replace the camera and try again. Don't bother with anything else until you do.

Beware that it will cost you upward of $90 for a genuine pull.
