I recently dropped my galaxy s8, and in the area it cracked there is a significantly large black spot, which has made only the top of my screen unusable. If i replace the screen only will it fix the problem, or do i need to replace the phone itself. Money is more of an issue than anything, and ive replaced phone screens myself in the past, but never an lcd

You need a new LCD. Honestly the LCD replacement isn't bad. If the LCD is many going to be used, I don't even use heat anymore. I just rip it out and put the new one in

sorry. Your LCD is broken. That's why you need to replace. You can try and get a cheap one, but cheap parts almost always yield cheap problems
