Why is the touchscreen unresponsive for a while?

Hi. I have this weird problem with my phone. When I turn off the screen/lock it, if I turn it on inmediately or after a bit the touchscreen won't work. It won't respond to my pressing and I have to leave it there for a while.

After a period of unresponsiveness (which can range from about 15 seconds to several minutes) the touchscreen will start working normally, until I lock the phone again and it does the same thing. Every time. Sometimes I can hear the "locking" sound a while after I pressed the "lock" button, which suggests that the problem is that the screen enters a long "locking" period rather than doing it instantly as it should when I press the button.

I've had this phone for a couple of years, and this problem started some time after I had to do a factory reset because it had entered an endless loop of turning itself on and off. So I don't know if this is a software issue or a hardware one, and in either case, I have no idea how to solve it. For that reason I'm asking here before trying another factory reset, since I don't know if that'll solve anything.

Can anyone help?

Sorry, I should have clarified that I tried restarting the phone and it doesn't work.

Back up the phone using the phone's backup feature.

Fully charge the battery.

Perform a hard reset (or factory restore as it is also called) using the phone's factory restore feature.

Be aware that a hard reset will erase all your data and downloaded apps. It will be like when you first bought it. That is why it is important to do a backup first

Once the phone has been reset, test the digitizer (touchscreen) function to see if it operates correctly.

If it still does not operate correctly then you have a hardware problem.

If it operates correctly (allow a bit of testing time to ensure that you are satisfied that it is working OK) then restore the phone from the backup you made earlier using the phone's restore feature.

Once the phone has been restored to its' previous state test the digitizer function again.

If it operates correctly (again allow a bit of testing time to ensure that you are satisfied that it is working OK) then the reset has resolved the problem.

If it does not operate correctly once again, then a downloaded app may be the cause of the problem. The trick is to find out which one. You will need to uninstall each downloaded app, one by one and test the digitizer function, between each uninstall until it operates correctly. Once it does work correctly the last app that you uninstalled will be the culprit.

Well, I followed your procedure and it does appear to be a hardware problem. In fact, the touchscreen has stopped responding completely, even after a couple of hours of letting it untouched. I guess an easy solution was not in the cards. :( Thanks, anyway
