Updated version of the original iPad 2, released in March of 2012 with a smaller die processor and updated internal construction. Repair will require the use of heat and careful prying.

Is a logic board replacement plug and play?

If I replace my logic board on ipad2 will I need to unlock? Or is it a plug and play type replacement?

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I can DIY it. So...as long as it is not icloud locked I should be good to go? (I carelessly fudged up the digitizer connectors while replacing screen). If ifixit is selling it, can I assume it is not locked?

Nothing is truly "plug & play" on an iPad :-). While it's certainly user-repairable if you follow the guides carefully, there are lot's of traps awaiting novice DIY'ers. You have to insure that the replacement logic board you purchase is not iCloud locked otherwise you will have an inactive device.

As for the logic board, follow this guide.

@refectio I have also encountered boards that are not flashed, and have zero serials. these are blank boards that need to be programmed, and are mostly for manufacturer warranty swaps. I ran into a supplier who quit from HTC, and stole a case of them, selling them online. they are practically paperweights for anyone that doesnt have access to the manufacturer's tools and programs. Make sure not to buy those ones.
