No screen with ram in second (upper) slot

I have tested all ram sticks and they are working fine. Is it a faulty MB or some other issue?

Hi @subsea1984 ,

Just verifying that you mean that there is no screen display with 2 ram modules installed. One in lower slot, one in upper slot. Is this correct?

Has it worked OK before with 2 ram modules installed?

tarafından

Yes correct. With both ram sticks installed be it original or new ram sticks i get a blank unlit screen but can hear you etc spinning. If I only have a stick in the lower slot (closest to motherboard) it boots and works fine. Anything goes in second (upper) slot then back to unlit screen

It was originally ok with two sticks then out the blue it started to do this. I then purchased 2 8gb compatible sticks incase my ram was faulty.

I shall try them ideas this evening when back from work and report back.

Hi @subsea1984 ,

Since it works with any RAM module in slot A and not with RAM in slots A + B I suspect that either slot B has gone faulty or the CPU memory controller has gone faulty.

Either way it is a motherboard problem.

It's strange that there are no "beep' error codes indicating faulty RAM (you haven't mentioned whether there are or not). Perhaps your laptop is supposed to give error messages on the screen instead but usually RAM is checked before video during POST. Have you tried connecting an external monitor to see if it displays anything when two RAM modules are installed?

One last throw of the dice is to try to boot from a memory test program with both slots occupied to verify that it is a hardware problem and not perhaps a EUFI / Windows problem. You may have to get into BIOS (using the RAM in slot A only) to enable the Legacy USB option and also to change the boot order to boot from the USB port first so that when you install the 2nd RAM module and then restart the laptop with the memory test program on a USB that it will try to boot from the USB flashdrive, hopefully after passing POST.
