Replaced Battery Not Charging

Hi Everyone,

I purchased a replacement battery for my laptop, it was pretty easy to install. Now it’s installed and it won’t charge / hold charge. The laptop only runs with the power cable connected - that’s how I’m writing this message now.

Here’s what coconut says (attached)

I could put the old better battery back in the status was (replace soon)

I’m not sure I actually successfully did the SMC but I tried it and it didn’t work.

Please help and thank you so much!

Who's battery did you buy?

tarafından

@danj probably a battery from eBay or Amazon that was not sold by iFixit. Let’s see if I am wrong because I would be utterly shocked if not...

I bought my battery from iFixit a year ago and just installed it today. The battery was stored in a temperature and light controlled area. It won't charge - the icon switches from black with the lightening bolt to empty with an X. Any advice?

It is probably a faulty battery, considering this was not an issue before replacing the battery.

If you got the battery from iFixit then email/call customer support and ask for a replacement because iFixit stands behind its products well. This should not be happening.

If you did not get the battery from iFixit, get a refund and buy one from iFixit. Getting replacement parts from anywhere else but Apple and iFixit is a roll of the dice. iFixit sells quality parts and if you are not 100% satisfied then they will replace the part/refund the money

PS: Now that I think about it, good luck getting parts from Apple, lol!

Update (11/02/2018)

Ohh that’s a bummer. Sounds like a Logic Board issue to me. Let’s try SMC and PRAM resets anyway.

Well you are right! @danj @ajcooke01

I put the old battery back in and everything back to normal, thank god no circuitry or motherboard problems. I bought the battery on amazon it’s an HWG wrapped up a very nice package nonetheless.

I wonder why it’s simply not working.

Perhaps I try to put in one more time as secure as possible and if not working again, I’ll return and buy from Ifixit.

Your thoughts?

Time to return it, the sensor logic within the battery is not communicating to your system which is why it's not showing it's charging Charging with 0 Watts Don't bother swapping it out again its bad

@albertcav Happy I could help! If you don't mind could mark my answer as correct and close this so we can work our way up to 100% answered questions ;-)

@albertcav Heres a link to get a new battery from iFixit, because I think it is just best if you return your faulty battery and get one from iFixit. I doubt you will get it to work (I would doubt myself too) and it probably won't last long if you perform a miracle and get it to work. MacBook Air 13" (Late 2010-2017) Battery

I have late 2012 MacBook Pro Retina. Put in a new iProPower (amazon) battery and it would not charge. Power report recognized the battery; said it was 48% charged; gave a capacity of 6700 mAh, but was not charginging. Per a thread I saw while back, remove the MegaSafe charger cable: then: (1) disconnected the battery, but did not remove it (it has adhesive, you know); (2) I held the power button down for 5 sec. , then reconnected the battery. attached the charging cable, and it CHARGED with great Power Report. I did not have to reset the SMC. This may not apply to all cases, but some might benefit if you know your battery is OK.

Elliot Feldbow I tried your tip and it worked with my macbook air mid 11!

I had to try a couple of times, first the battery started working but it still wouldn't charge and then charging worked as well. Thank you! Ifixit was ready to replace my battery but it is not necessary anymore :) good for the enviroment

Edit: I had already tried SMC and PRAM resets, but they didn't work

take a look at some of these answers… also shows the location of the components on the board that you are looking for MacBook not recognizing battery, not even in coconutbattery

other suggestion on iFixit answers that have worked include shutting down the mac completely, and then plugging in charger but not turning on machine. Allow the battery to charge and then power on.

reinstall OS.

Remove RAM, put battery in, charge, then replace RAM.
