My screen is glitching out unless I adjust it or apply pressure to it

Hi! I’ve had this computer for about 2 years I believe and over the past few months I’ve started having problems with the screen. The thing that happens is that the picture on the screen will suddenly freeze either displaying a slightly distorted picture or displaying a weird color change that resembles a magnet being held to a television. (No matter what happens with the colors the screen freezes and I have to adjust it forward or backward or squeeze the top of the screen. However, these are only temporary remedies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I may have listed the wrong computer my laptop is a Hp 15 series model number is 15-ay009dx

Hi @zodiac_wanderer ,

Here’s a link to the service manual for your laptop.

Scroll to p.77 to view the part numbers for the components associated with the display assembly, followed by the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the display panel.

The manual will help you to gain access to the most likely areas of the problem, i.e. the video cable connection to the motherboard, the video cable itself because it passes through the hinge area and may be damaged there, the video cable connection to the display panel and hopefully it is not the problem the display panel itself.

If you need a new part, search online using the appropriate part number only (found on p.77) in the search box of your browser to get results for suppliers of the part.

Hopefully this is of some help.

Hi,

Sounds like either a failing LVDS cable or misconnection. If you are comfortable in doing so, remove the LCD from the laptop and re-seat connections (watch a YouTube video beforehand to get an idea of things). Once removed, you should be able to see one side not connecting properly or any damage to the connections.

.

By the looks of things you have a HP Pavilion G Series, give this a watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSfnbVmC... [PLEASE NOTE SOME MODELS DIFFER]

If you are not comfortable in removing the LCD, a quick visit to a local PC repair shop should sort your issues out.

Do not apply too much pressure to the LCD as it can crack, then you’ll be looking at a bigger repair bill.

Hope this helps, any further questions feel free to ask!

If it got loose over time I also recommend reinforcing the connection by putting scotch tape over the connector to make sure it doesn't get loose.

Thank you your answer is very helpful but I believe I flubbed and listed the wrong laptop as the one I own. I've tried to correct it officially in the product listing as well as listed my product number in the description. I really appreciate the time you've already put into answering my question and even though it might be a bother I would greatly appreciate any additional info you can give me now that I've corrected my mistake
