does keyboard malfunction on this specific model happen often?

iw been having my dell inspiron 3537 for almost 4 years so far, and it worked perfectly. Im really satisfied with it. But recently, for no specific reason (no dmg caused do to dropping or spilling anything over it), some of the keys stopped working. At first Caps lock, left shift and Ctrl stopped working, but in last few days this “not working thing” expended to “q” and “w” key also. Any general idea what could cause this? or tips what to do about it? ( id maybe try opening it my self but without some guides on how to really do it, im not interested in messing around and possibly cause more harm )

Hi @radicki ,

No idea why this is happening unless you pound the keyboard as this will cause the key contacts to wear or perhaps the circuit membranes to fail.

Try connecting and using a USB keyboard just to eliminate the possibility of a software problem.

Here’s a link to the service manual for your laptop, taken from this webpage.

Scroll down to p.21 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the keyboard. The replacement procedure follows afterwards

Replacement keyboards are available online. Just search for Dell Inspiron 3537 keyboard to get results for suppliers of the part.

Hopefully this is of some help.
