How permanently stop GE microwave beeping?
I just had a JVM3160DF4WW GE microwave oven installed. To my horror, there appears to be no simple way to turn off all blasted beeping forever.
It looks like the only option is to disassemble it and cut the wire to the beeper. Is that the case? If so, any tips about doing that? I have seen some YouTube videos on disassembling GE microwaves as well as videos on disconnecting the beeper (do GE microwaves use a standard beeper?).
Also, I hear that the capacitor can remain charged. What is the best way to be sure it is discharged? Can’t I just unplug the microwave some time beforehand and give it time to discharge? If so, how long beforehand to be safe?
Thank you for whatever advice you can provide.

Actually, the answers for this model are not correct. For model JVM3160DF4WW there is no way to disable with the keypad. It must be disassembled and the speaker detached. Here is how I did it. Remove the unit from the wall. Remove screws from the top, bottom, and back. NOTE: You will need a special security bit to remove some screws from the back. Remove the front upper grill. Remove the bottom. Carefully lift off the top/sides unit. Avoid touching anything but the parts behind the circuit board. Using a flat head screw driver, carefully pry off the round/flat object (speaker) from the back of the circuit board. All you need to disconnect is one side of the speaker. Reassemble the unit. All sound is disabled. (NOTE: if you're not certain which part is the speaker, place a short piece of 1/4" tubing in your ear and listen around for the beep as you press the start button (unit plugged in). Again, be careful to not touch any other component in the oven; there is a high voltage capacitor that can be dangerous.

Thank you. I will try this as soon as the warranty expires (it already had to be repaired under warranty).
I would like to be sure that the capacitor is fully discharged before trying anything. I will try to find out how long that should take.
I am very unhappy with GE for not providing a normal way to turn off the beeper. It is simply wrong that we have to pay more to eliminate a "feature" we don't want.
Anyway, thanks again.

I just bought this Microwave. All I jad to do was unscrew the control panel which comes off with 3 screws, then without disconnecting anything and using a screwdriver - i was able to carefully bend the speaker UP slightly to expose it's 2 wires. I then simply pulled one off.
Re-assembled everything and Voila! - no sound.
I chose this method because I had seen some disassembly videos from Repair Clinic and knew I could get the control panel off.
Secondly - I didnt remove the speaker so there was no risk of damaging the board. The control panel can still send a signal to the speaker - it just won't activate because 1 of the wires isn't connected.

Thank you for taking the time to share this information. It is wonderful to hear that there is such a simple solution.
I moved so no longer have to suffer from that microwave model but I hope that someone else can benefit from your post.
