Logic Board is broken, can I upgrade?

The logic board on (what I think is late 2013, it’s Model A1502) MacBook Pro is dead.

The Apple store confirmed this but said it would be $615 to fix. I’d like to just fix it myself, but I’m not sure which logic board to buy. I think mine was 2.4 GHz, but I’m not sure how to check since the computer won’t boot or respond to any key presses.

I see that they have 2.4, 2.6, and 2.8 GHz logic boards for this model. So is it possible for me to replace my broken 2.4 GHz board with a 2.8 GHz logic board?

I would need to order tools as well because I’m living in Bangkok at the moment.

Thank you

Guessing is not the same as knowing! And you need to know what series to then figure out what is the correct board your system can support.

Locate the snarl number on the bottom plate and paste it into here EveryMac - Lookup

Then tell us once you've verified your system.

Thank you for your response. I went to that site and entered my serial number (I assume “snarl” was a typo?). The site told me “This serial number is for a 13-Inch MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid-2014).

Does yours have a 2.6 GHz Core i5, 2.8 GHz Core i5, or 3.0 GHz Core i7 processor? ”

So if I can find one, it looks like an i7 with 2.8 ghz and 16 of ram is the best I could upgrade my machine too, assuming I can find the parts. As far as a cheap tool set to do the job myself, do you sell that or is there a kit you recommend? Thanks a lot

Here’s the correct guide for your series MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Mid 2014 Logic Board Replacement. Here’s the Apple P/N’s for each of the boards your system can support. Presently IFIXIT does not have any. You might be able to locate one locally, or from a reliable parts house.
