cold replacement of the battery

My early 2013 MacBook pro 15” needs a battery replacement. The batteries are swollen. To make removing the battery pack safer, can this be done in cold conditions. I noticed that leaving the MBP outside for a day. The swelling decreased significantly. Will the adhesive remover work in temperature close to freezing?

I haven't tried to remove the battery yet. But one question. Would the dental floss method of cutting through the dissolved adhesive be safer?

Yep, it may take noticeably longer but will still work.

Good question! While the swelling will decrease as the battery gets colder, the effectiveness of the solvent will decrease as well.

So the trick is keeping the battery cold but allowing the aluminum uppercase to stay at room temp. Using a waterless Ice block you use to keep food cold should offer the cold to keep the battery under control as you allow the case to warm up.

The cold will also prevent the solvent to evaporate as quickly so you want to use less.

I would get a few sets of plastic cards to wedge underneath the battery cells as you free them up. You may need to re-cool your system and attack it again a few times. MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Early 2013 Battery Replacement
