peeling paint in microwave oven
The paint is peeling in my GE microwave oven. Does this render the microwave unusable?

There is a class action law suit ongoing on this issue, you may want to join it:
this paint peeling issue is not merely cosmetic, it could pose health and/or safety hazards. When the paint peels off the interior of the unit, it cannot only fall onto food being heated or cooked in the microwave, it also exposes the metal underneath. The exposure of metal can result in a phenomenon known as “arcing.” Arcing occurs when exposed metal on the interior of the microwave sparks or flashes, a potential fire hazard.

Ordinary enamel paint is no good to use as it gets very hot inside a microwave oven.
Make sure that you remove any paint that is starting to peel and then sand back the edges between the painted and unpainted areas smooth and then paint over with a microwave cavity paint (examples only).

Mine is a Hamilton Beach only about 2 years old. I’ve never seen this b4 happening to a microwave and I’ve had plenty in my lifetime. Rusty paint chipping away. I’ve always kept it clean as well.
Mine is a Danby I bought from Costco a couple of years ago. The interior paint is peeling off quite badly
Same thing with Sharp. Also the burners on the last two drip coffee pots I bought did this. They are just cheap garbage now
I just looked and they do still make them with stainless steel linings. I am going that way next time. I am sure the one I just bought will fall apart soon too

what if we PAINT the PEELED area of the Microwave, and then use it, is it safe

I want to join on the GE suit against paint peeling inside of microwave. Never in my life have had this happen. Now rusting inside.
