Thin lines all over the screen, heavy graphics issues following

Hi!

I just got MBP and immediately noticed thin horizontal lines all over the screen, most notable on the white background. See this

Than I layed on my back holding the notebook on the knees so it face a bit downwards. A few moments later I saw a weird glitch developing. Now it doesn’t go.

I checked LVDS cable, both it’s ends - they doesn’t look bad. No corrosion or anything like that. And I wonder - what da **** is that??

Most confusing is I literally saw it becomes visible, and that it happened after I tilted the machine.

The smear you are seeing is likely a bad signal decoder board (T-CON) on the LCD display unit. To double check plug in an external display if the image is clean there you know the issue is within internal display logic.

Here’s a good breakdown of the display MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown if you jump to Steps 8 & 9 you’ll see board at the bottom which processes the iDP (eDP) signal from your logic board (the older MacBook’s used LVDS signaling)

Sadly, you’ll need to replace the display assembly MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Display Assembly Presently iFixit is out of stock you’ll need to look for it using the Apple P/N 661-8310. I got there inside, it looks fine. Which means nothing of course

External screen works good.

So you suppose there's no other ways but to swap the panel?(

Looking fine and being fine can be very different ;-}

Electronics often involve debugging the signals digging deep into the logic and having access to the small custom SMT devices used.

Getting the needed schematics and board views are difficult to get. This is one of the mandates of the Right to Repair movement having access to them and the parts.

At this point in time getting a new display assembly is your only option moving forward. There is some logic on the main board that also effect things but that's more rare.
