Alex AWE CMOS batteries are pretty much a thing of the past. For the last 5-10 years the CMOS information can no longer be reset by that method.

**Reset ASUS BIOS Password Using Alt+R (Requires BIOS Downgrade)**

If **Alt + R** doesn't work, your BIOS version may have disabled it. You can bring it back by downgrading the BIOS.

**What You’ll Need:**

* Keep your device plugged in and charging

* Download from [ASUS Support](https://www.asus.com/support):

* **Winflash Utility**

* **ATK Package**

* **Oldest BIOS version** for your laptop

**Downgrade Steps:**

1. Install **ATK Package** and **Winflash**

2. Open the **Winflash folder**, type `cmd` in the address bar, press **Enter**

3. In Command Prompt, run: `Winflash /nodate`

4. Winflash will open—select the old BIOS file

5. Follow the prompts; your device will restart when done

**Using Alt+R:**

1. Turn on your laptop, press **F2** or **Esc** to enter BIOS

2. At the password prompt, press **Alt + R**

3. A window with a **date** will appear

4. Go to [biosbug.com](https://biosbug.com), enter the date to get a **rescue password**

5. Enter the password to unlock or reset the BIOS

Hi Alex

Try this method, turn on the computer and access BIOS

Please visit this link below.

https://pastebin.com/raw/L3c3rySj

Subtract current year and get the password

e.g.

2019 - 10 = 2009

2018 - 10 = 2008

2017 - 10 = 2007

.. etc

For example:

  • At the password prompt, press alt+r
  • Take note of the date displayed. For me it was 2017-05-11
  • Use Ctrl+F to search the paste bin for your month and date. I used "-05-11"
  • Use the codes you find until one of them works. Mine was the same code as 2007-05-11 from the paste bin.
  • It looks like the codes might repeat every 10 years. So I would suggest starting with the month and date combination from 10 years prior to whatever date is displayed after you press alt+r.

I'm having the same problem. I can get past my user password but not the admin and I've tried to Pastebin. The only option I know of is to send it to ASUS or replace the motherboard.

ASUS BIOS Password Reset Using Alt+R (Full Guide)

If your ASUS laptop no longer responds to **Alt + R** on the BIOS password screen, it’s likely using a newer BIOS version that disabled this feature. To restore Alt+R and reset the password, you’ll need to downgrade your BIOS.

---

  • What You Need

* • ATK Package

* • Winflash Utility

* • Oldest available BIOS version for your laptop model

*

---

**How to Downgrade the BIOS**

1. Install the ATK Package.

2. Install Winflash Utility.

3. Open the folder where Winflash is installed.

4. Click the folder's address bar, type `cmd`, then press Enter.

5. In the Command Prompt window, type:

```
Winflash /nodate
```

This command skips the date check and allows older BIOS installations.

6. When Winflash opens, select the old BIOS file you downloaded.

7. Follow the instructions. Your laptop will automatically restart when the downgrade is complete.

---

How to Use Alt+R After Downgrade

1. Turn on the laptop and press F2 or Esc to enter BIOS.

2. When asked for a password, press Alt + R.

3. A window will appear showing a date.

4. Go to ``https://pastebin.com/raw/L3c3rySj`` and enter the date shown.

This method restores the legacy password recov
