Hi @greatlakeruler ,

What is the make and model of the vehicle that the radio and amp is installed in?

Have you checked that the power is actually available at the radio itself?

Has it worked OK before ?

What else have you checked besides the fuses?

1998 Ford Expedition XLT 5.4 yes power is going thru the red & the yellow wire &I have a perfect ground but still no power to my radio&amp....Another thing, going on is whn I my key turned bck my windows dnt go dwn it have to be turned in the forward position to go dwn...&my locks dnt automatically lock whn I put my truck in Drive...My radio was working perfectly until I turned my truck off ...I even checked my amp &it was is good...Just dnt power on now because no power to my radio I guess...Do you think it's the radio itself??

Hi @greatlakeruler ,

I don't know your vehicle but if you're getting power to the back of the radio and you have a good earth there as well then the problem is in the radio.

The radio is less than 3mths old.... It was working perfectly until I turned my truck off one day at wrk...After that the radio never came bck on....Should my amp at least power up &wrk if it's the radio??

Hi @greatlakeruler ,

The amp may need to be "triggered on" from the radio.

Here's a link to the radio wiring harness wiring colours.

You need to get to the harness at the back of the radio and check that there is power on the TWO 12V+ power wires and of course that there is a good earth (ground) as well on the appropriate harness connector wires.

The switched power is the one that comes from the ignition key being operated, at least to the accessory position.

If there is no 12V+ on both wires, (with the ignition key in the accessory position for the switched power wire), then you'll have to follow it back to find where the break is. Same with the ground.

You will notice that there is a wire from the radio to the amp called a trigger wire but I'm thinking if the radio doesn't turn on then the amp won't be turned on either from the radio.

Hi @greatlakeruler ,

If it is only 3 months old check the warranty as what to do to make a claim for a manufacturer's warranty repair or replacement.

Opening it up to find the problem yourself will most probably void the warranty.

if you are unable to use the "trigger" or more commonly known Remote wire to turn on the amp then the radio is sending the 12volt signal through the remote wire to start the amp.

So the short answer is if the amp is not turning on when connected to power and the remote wire. Then the radio is not turning on.

If you have 12volts to the back of the radio with the accessory position on the key and you have a good ground and no power or lights etc on the receiver then the problem is in the hardware of the radio or the motherboard.

Cheers,

Monte

@mjkern. Do my radio suppose to be hot if it's not powering on???No lights,no nothing coming on...

tarafından

It shouldn't be getting hot enough to feel through the case. If it is it basically a sign you have a short on the board in the unit and that you should return to whee you purchased it as it seems to be a manufacture defect or warranty issue.

Good Luck!!

I would recommend at this point you pop the cage open carefully and start to inspect the circuit boards and look for where that heat is coming from. That is going to be the area where the culprit component is shorting and causing the heat.

Once you find that take a picture and post it and we can source what part you need to repair the radio. I would stop connecting it to power if its getting hot. You are just doing more damage to the unit at this point.

Let me know, I’ll help ya out however I can.

Ok I will...

Is the amp original equipment, if it was added on by the owner then the radio will not be covered by warrantee. If you are going to open it up yourself prepare a FINE SPRAY MIST BOTTLE of alcohol to spray on the circuit boards in small sections at a time to monitor which component is getting hot by the alcohol evaporating faster in that area.
