Fridge stops cooling every couple days
My Whirlpool has for the past couple weeks has randomly stopped cooling. I unplug it let it sit for a couple minutes and plug it back in and everything is fine. But a couple days later we’ll have a pool of water on the floor from melting ice tray. I’ve read through other guides but none of them mention intermittent non cooling issues. Due to lack of time the past couple of weeks I’ve been putting it off by unplugging it and plugging it back in. But it’s time to face the facts and make time to fix it. Where do I start? To be clear both the fridge and freezer stop cooling entirely no air what so ever, not even warm and no compressor noise.

Hi,
What is the model number of the fridge?
Sounds as though it is not auto defrosting and then not restarting at the end of the auto defrost if you can't hear the compressor running.
You may have to monitor the fridge for a while to work out what is (or is not) happening, as I don't know how to manually start an auto defrost sequence. Maybe the service manual will show this.
Once the compressor is running check that when it has stopped running that it restarts after about 20-30 minutes. This is about the usual time allowed for auto defrost. Be aware that it also may stop running simply because the correct temps have been reached in the fridge/freezer but should startup again if you leave a door open for a few minutes.
Auto defrost usually occurs once every 8-12 hours so the compressor should be stopped at least 2-3 times per day.
If it doesn't restart after the defrost time period has elapsed at least you have a starting point.
If it is not defrosting it could be a faulty defrost heater. This could ice up the evap fan after a few days and prevent cold air being blown into the fridge but usually the freezer temp is about right if this happens.

Model number is WSF26C2EXF01
I have been trying to catch it when it shuts off but I often don’t find it until there’s a pool of water on the ground. I also attempted to locate the owners manual but could only find a one pager for installation on whirlpools website. If you could find a full manual that would be fantastic. The next time I catch it off I’ll wait for 20-30 minutes and see if it tries to kick on. @jayeff
