Screen flickering/flashing on shut down
It looks like this when I shut the MacBook down

It’s a brand new Mac, whatever the failure may be it’s covered by Applecare. Your best option is to contact Apple to receive support.

On any new electronic device that I have problems with in the first year, I take out additional warranty coverage. You can get an additional two years of AppleCare at anytime during the first year but not after it expires.
