As above , I just purchased an Acer Aspire 3 15.6 Inch A9 4GB 1TB FHD Laptop and find it to be a bit slow for me. Can this model be upgraded and if so how easily? If I can upgrade the RAM it would save me returning it for 8GB RAM model.

According to this, your laptop supports a maximum 12GB of RAM, 4GB of which is already hard mounted on the motherboard and there is only 1 RAM slot available to insert the extra RAM.
So you can insert an 8GB RAM module to achieve the maximum supported amount of memory.
As @rustedchip mentioned you can replace the HDD with a SSD for even better performance.

If you want your computer more faster replace the 1TB HDD for a SSD, that will make your computer more faster (I think x10 faster). If you want more Software load you can upgrade your RAM.
Check your Task Manager and probably you will see your Hard Drive working at 100%.

I want to know what SSD and RAM would be compitable to my model (Aspire 3 A315-22-468M). This laptop is so slow it always takes like 5 mins to open chrome :/
