What is wrong with my 3DS XL?

I had my 3DS tucked away in a drawer for probably a year and when I took it out recently, the top screen is now buggy and distorted. I don’t know how to describe it exactly, please see below.

Most games will play with a lot of color distortion on objects, but games like Pokemon omega ruby go block once a save is loaded, but hitting home will bring up the top display for the home screen.

The 3D seems to work normally, which makes me think this has to do with the GPU or something, but I cant find anything online about it
