Can I make my old iMac better by switching out the logic board?

Okay so I don’t have much money to pay for a new computer so I want to try to make it better myself. I’m not really a computer wiz but i am the son of an electrician so i know my way around wires, and i have messed with some(2) computers before. I was wondering if i could buy the 661-5937 logic board to replace my 661-5306 logic board (for the better processing power with the intel chip). so The question is basically if the 661-5306(2011 21.5” iMac’s logic board) will work with the 2009 21.5” case, screen, parts, etc.. If not is there any way i noticeably can up my computers processing power on a budget?

Apple tends to mix things up! The 2011 logic boards will not properly fit into the 2009 case.

There are a few other things which you can do to get better performance from your system.

Adding RAM is a good start pushing your system to 16 GB iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2308 RAM Replacement

Thank you for the help, I understand the issue of it not fitting but that bothers me less than the will it work like as a computer? I don’t really care about the case and if it fits. But like will the system itself work if I do switch it? (Also thanks a lot Danj, I’ve been doing some research on whether this would work or not and you seem to be the expert of Mac computers, very impressive and nice to have an expert helping me out). I mean I’m fine with unconventional, even if it’s like a cardboard box with a screen if it works fine, that’s all I care about.

@Christian Tarantino - The problem is its like you put sox on your hands and then shoes, your pants over your torso and your shirt on your legs!

Its just doesn't work ;-} Sometimes there is a point we just can't make a piece of coal into a diamond as much as we want to!

Focus on what you can do and less on the less practical. Otherwise look at the used market for a 2011 system.
