Mac shuts down randomly and comes back after pressing a button

so every now and then my macbook pro turns off/shuts down/sleeps while using it and there’s no explanation…

Apple MacBook Pro 13-Inch "Core i7" 2.9 Mid-2012

Specs:

2x1TB SSD

16 GB RAM

I chucked on some new heat paste…might that be the problem?

When it turns off it’s not even that hot…like fans blowing or overheating…usually runs between 65-78 C°

It’s not a big issue but I can’t get my head around why it shuts off randomly for like 10 secs and when I press a button it comes back on (while watching a movie for example).

I’ll bet it didn’t do this until you installed Catalina.

wouldn't really know since I started this one off on catalina.

might be worth trying a different osx for a bit though...

Go under the Apple to"about this Mac" > System Report > Hardware overview > Boot ROM version and tell us what it is.

Sounds like you got a used machine and it may not have gotten the firmware updates normally installed when doing progressive system upgrades "Mainly the one that took place with Sierra".
