Phone is unable to connect to pc through usb.

Hello all!

''Note:- i actually have redmi 4x and not note 4x as the device wasn't available on ifixit.com so I have to select redmi note 4x as my device.''

My phone is unable to connect to the pc through usb. when I plug the phone to my pc through usb the phone just charges no notification comes that usb plugged or anything. neither my pc shows any change no new device is detected in my devices even no “device not recognised “ thing.

neither my phone now connects to otg now.

and another thing to note is that my phone which is rated to be charged at 2A charges at max 350mA(ampere app) it starts from 850 mA and gets reduced to 300mA or less all these when connected to a perfectly fine 2A charger and have tried different chargers as well as usb cables no success.

any fix for this ??? please help. I think it's internal hw problem.

Hi,

Sounds as though the USB port may have a problem.

It doesn’t show it in the user manual for the phone but in most Android phones check that USB debugging has been enabled to allow connection to a PC etc.. Go to Settings > Developer Options > USB debugging.

If the setting is enabled then use a strong light and a magnifying glass to visually inspect the phone’s USB port enclosure for any obstructions. Also check that all the pins are there and that they’re all straight and parallel with each other and not bent, broken or missing especially pins 2 & 3 as these are the data pins. If there is anything in the port, do not use a metal pin or probe to try and clear it, try using a vacuum cleaner instead to try and suck it out. If it won’t dislodge then try gently using a sharpened wooden toothpick to prise it out.

If the USB port seems clear try the following to check if it is loose from the systemboard.

Turn off the phone and then plug the charger into the phone but not into the power outlet. Grab hold of the phone firmly in one hand and then using the other hand, gently, stress gently, try to move the charger plug from side to side and up and down to check if there is any movement in the port.

If the USB port is loose (or even if not) the phone will have to be opened and the problem further investigated.

Here’s a video that may help with that. At ~6:00 minutes onwards into the video, the USB port comes into better view.

Hopefully this is of some help.
