Cannot get into DFU Mode - stuck on Apple Logo

Have an iPhone Xs Max, and it’s stuck on the Apple Logo. I’ve tried plugging it into a computer and pressing Volume Up quickly Down quickly and holding Side. After that sequence the screen turns black. I then immediately release the Side button, and quickly press the Side and Down buttons together. The instructions say to press these two buttons together for five seconds and then release the Side while letting go of Down, which I do. However, usually about 3-4 seconds after the screen turning black, the Apple logo pops back onto the screen. It’s my understanding that the Apple logo should not be popping back on. It never actually goes into DFU.

I’ve tried this sequence about 100 times now to make sure it’s not some timing thing. It’s impossible for me to do the sequence any faster.
