Replaced battery and condition still says Replace Now

Hi there,

I have a Macbook pro Retina 15" mid-2014 running High Sierra 10.13.6.

I purchased a Macbook pro battery (for the 2013-mid-2015) by Newertech because my apple one said Replace Now. I followed iFixit’s video instructions and installed it yesterday. I calibrated the battery as instructed, I reset the PRAM and reset the SMC, and I still see the "Condition: Replace Now" showing up on my Mac. The battery only has 2 cycles on it, was made 11-23-2020.

Coconut Battery says it has Current Charge & Full Charge are 9937 mAh, Design Capacity (of computer I think) is 8440 mAh, MacOS Battery status = poor, Battery temp = 30.6 degrees C. Is my battery truly bad? What else can I do to reset the condition, and why does coconut battery say the battery status is poor? Thanks.

Update (02/01/2021)

The coconut battery screenshot was taken at 4 pm today. As of 7 pm today the temp of the battery has gone down to 24.5 degrees C, but all else in the screenshot remains the same. Thanks for any guidance!

Thanks for the suggestion. I did the SMC reset a number of times (both with the power cable plugged in and without), and battery still reads Condition: Replace Now. If you have any other ideas, I'd love to know! Thanks.

Hi Karin,

From what I have seen on other threads, the only other solution might be to contact whoever you bought the battery from and request a replacement.

On the other thread, the person who had the same issue had to replace its battery twice. On the third battery, the issue was resolved.

Ok, thanks bloggerstomper. I'm not looking forward to disassemblying the whole thing again (to get the adhesive off!), but I do want this to be solved.

I completely understand, and I'll keep looking for an answer. I'll keep you posted if I find anything new besides that.

@khmacs - Sadly you need to get a replacement battery. The supplier of the battery messed up the micro controller firmware. A few companies who sell the battery got hit with this.

Hint: I would hold off taking the adhesive cover sheet until you are sure the battery is OK.
