GPS not working after battery replacement

Hi everyone.

I've replaced the battery on the S9+ several times and never had a problem. This time, after replacing the battery, the GPS is not working with navigation apps like Google Maps, Waze, and others.
The apps even recognize my location but don't move in real-time as I drive and keeps trying to connect to the GPS.

I did several tests, such as:

. clearing the app’s cache.

. Reinstalled the navigation Apps like Waze, Google Maps; and installing other apps.

. Turned the GPS / Airplane mode off and on.

. Ensured the energy-saving mode is off.

. Wiped the cache date through bootloader.

. Installed the old battery back.

. Ensured all the screws are properly tightened.

I wouldn’t want to do the factory reset at this time.

Not sure if you guys have any clue. My guess is something physical.

Thanks.

Hi,

I’m not sure if the SUB antenna module (supplier example only to show what it looks like) also includes the GPS antenna.

Its location can be seen the image in Step.6 of the Ifixit Samsung Galaxy S9+ Teardown guide at the top of the phone. Maybe worth checking if it is OK

Thanks, Jayeff.

I guess something is wrong with this part indeed, but, visually checking, it looks like it’s ok.

Not sure if there is any other troubleshoot that I could do before buying a new antenna.

I’ll clean it up with isopropyl alcohol 99.9% as well as the board connections.

Crossing my fingers.

Hi @Rodrigo Jardim ,

It may not be the only antenna in the phone or used exclusively for the GPS if at all.

What is your phone signal strength like i.e. how many bars?

The GPS frequencies of 1.227GHz & 1.575GHz sit in between the lower 4G freq range of 0.7GHz, 0.85 GHz and 1.8GHz, 2.1GHz, 2.3GHz etc (carrier dependent) so they may possibly share the module.

Try running in safe mode and check how it goes.

If it works OK then a downloaded app is the cause of the problem.

The trick is to find out which one. A downloaded app is one that you downloaded and installed on the phone and wasn't pre-installed on the phone when you first got it.

I was not able to fix it. I tried replacing what I thought was the antenna (mine was marked S-N2) but I purchased and received a part marked S-E4 and it didn't work. When I removed the top part to get to the battery the lead on the left was cracked. I searched and searched for the S-N2 part but no one had it so I had to give up. I finally traded in the S9 for a new phone. Good luck with your efforts and hope you do better than me.
