Turn on the power to the machine and then press and hold the Rinse + Spin buttons (both together) for 3 seconds to either activate or deactivate the Control Lock feature.

On my top loading super inverter LG washer I just had to press the child lock button for three seconds. I didn't notice but it actually says "Child lock" in very small letters.

Press and hold the soil level button for 3 seconds during the wash cycle to disable the child lock.
Here's the section from the user manual that explains how to enable and disable the feature.

I held down the rinse & spin button for 3 seconds. It released the control lock.
My question: why does the manual not describe how to deal with this error code nor even list it in the error message section??? Thank goodness for Google. Press and hold the water plus/child lock button worked for me.
P.S. I bought this machine 8 years ago. NO other service issues 😌
The CL code is NOT an error code.
It is usually described in the user manual under the features i.e. Control Lock or Child Lock and is there to inform whether the lock has been enabled or disabled, usually done by the user of the machine
My panel shows child lock and CL. I tried pressing rinse and spin for more then 3 seconds it does not work. Please advise.

Not every washer uses the same button sequence to enable/disable the Child lock feature.

None of the above worked, probably because my panel is different. Then I noticed on my LG the Half Load and Energy Saver had an note below them: Control Lock.
I pressed both simultaneously and the frustrating CL was cleared.

My washer is a LG Direct Drive model WT1700CW it does not have buttons. it has lights. Very frustrating. I have hard cleared it several times. I cannot make the CL code go away.
I have theWT1701CV. I cannot remove the CO code tried everything please help.

To activate/deactivate the Control Lock (CL) feature in your LG WT8400CW model washer, turn on the power to the washer and then press and hold the Deep Fill button for 3 seconds.

Please confirm the model number of the washer as the number you posted gives no results?
WM8900HBA Is my model number. I tried the combo pre wash and delay wash. It did not work
This worked on my LG model, which has a similar control panel to yours:
For front-loading washer dryer combo “Inverter Direct Drive True Balance” LG model #WM3499H*A:
1) Once LG machine is powered ON:
2) Go to the right touch-screen panel, press and hold “Pre-wash + Delay wash” buttons simultaneously for 3-5 seconds. This will turn OFF the CL (control lock/child lock). You’ll hear a little jingle when the function is processed.
3) Similarly, pressing this combo simultaneously again for 3-5seconds will turn back ON the CL .

What is the model number of your washer?
Not all LG models use the same lock/unlock control buttons.
If your machine does require the spin + rinse buttons to be operated, then if the rinse button is faulty it will have to be replaced or somehow bypassed to disable the CL code

Not all LG washers use the same set of buttons for the CL function.
To activate/deactivate the Child Lock (CL) feature in your model, press and hold the Beeper button and the Rinse button (both together) for 3 seconds.

To activate/deactivate the Child Lock (CL) feature in an LG WT1701CV turn on the washer and then press and hold the Soil Level button for 3 seconds and then release it
Here's an image of the Control Panel for your model washer where you can see that the *Child Lock feature is associated with the button. This should be printed on your panel as well.
