The Lenovo Thinkpad X240, released in 2013, fairly light and compact, and looks familiar to the ThinkPad Line. The X240 is notable for its clunky touch pad.

Hi @Tobias kjeldsen,

Simply replace the laptop’s existing WLAN card (if there is one) with a WLAN + BT card (supplier example only). The Lenovo part number for the module is 04X6008. Search online using the part number only to get suppliers that may suit you better.

It may be that the card that you can salvage from another laptop is a WiFi (WLAN) + BT module and hopefully it is compatible with the laptop.

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for your laptop.

Go to p.65 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the WLAN card.

Thank you very much. That doesn't look too expensive so I'll buy one if my laptop isn't compatible

Hey i got the card from my old pc and it physically fits but when i boot the computer it is telling me that the network card is unathorized. Is there any way that i can authorize it or do i have to buy the exact card the pc has?

Hi @Tobias kjeldsen

Turn off the laptop, disconnect the charger, battery etc and remove the WiFi card.

Reconnect the battery, charger etc and then restart the laptop and get into BIOS, disable the WLAN card setting and then load BIOS defaults save settings and boot the laptop.

When it has booted into the desktop etc allow it to settle down and then disable the internal battery the laptop will power off, unplug the charger, insert the card, boot the laptop

- enter the BIOS Setup, enable the Wireless LAN port, save, and check if the card is now detected and working.

If not it may be not compatible with the model

The part number I linked above should be compatible

Typically there isn’t any extra room inside of a laptop for additional internal components. You might be able to make some small modifications if you can find some extra space but I wouldn’t recommend it.

You can find a low profile USB dongle for about $10 that would save you the headache of tearing apart your laptop and risking damaging it, that’s what I use on mine.

Tobias kjeldsen listen to @ndomako10 and just get a Bluetooth dongle. It's the easiest and works well. No reason to reinvent the wheel.

@oldturkey03 The lack of internal BT genuinely surprises me on a X240. Most laptops of a descent spec use a WLAN+BT card.

Granted on the used HP and Dell business laptops I go for the top spec versions (or as close as I can get), so maybe I just get the right configurations of these machines. It happens, but I've only ever seen it on old, old stuff - my refurb E6540 had the DW1506 card until I put a AC7260 in for Windows 10. The X usually uses Intel cards, which usually have it.
