Hi @imranali ,

Try a power refresh and check if this resolves the problem in case it is a corrupted BIOS that is preventing a normal start.

i). Switch off and disconnect the power from the computer.

ii). Open the computer and locate and remove the coin cell battery that is on the motherboard. Remember its orientation, note which is the +ve side (marked on battery) before removal.

Here’s the hardware reference guide for the computer model. Go to p.41 - 43, to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the battery. Note: that there are 3 different methods for how the battery could be mounted. Also take heed regarding the date and time reset that is required after having do all this see info on bottom of p.43

When the battery is out, check its voltage. if it is less than 2.5V DC replace it. These batteries are non rechargeable and last about 5-6 years. The battery type number is stamped on the battery itself. Mostly they’re a CR2032 which is commonly available everywhere, e.g. supermarkets

iii). Press and hold the Power On button on the computer for a full 30 seconds and then release it.

iv). Reinsert the coin cell battery onto the motherboard (remember the orientation of the battery when inserting)

v). Reassemble the computer and connect the power to the computer and switch on and check if it starts etc.

@jayeff , my HP Compaq 1st crashed, got blue screen, self repaired, then updated, however it then was stuck on welcome sign in screen. I wasn't able to sign in. I ran the diagnostics, hard drive passed, but had "memory failed ". I replaced the CMOS 2032 battery, positive side in same location, cleaned the memory cards, which I upgraded last year, cleaned computer with air. Went to turn on, the same. A day or 2 later, I went to plug in, turn on, and noticed the green power light was on. I unplugged the cord, plugged back in, immediately it got power, started to come on, fan running, but just a few seconds later, it stops, green light stays on, I push and hold power button in, it stays on, doesn't start, anything! No power to keyboard. No fan running, nothing! ??????????????.

Update (04/19/23)

Btw: it's about 6 or 7 years old. I don't use it alot. No gaming.

Hi @allenwheeler,

What is the model number of the laptop?

tarafından

It's a Compaq desktop.

@allenwheeler

The model number would help to find the manual for the desktop which will tell where to connect a system speaker on the motherboard.

The instances of "... it got power, started to come on, fan running, but just a few seconds later, it stops, green light stays on,..." may be a POST failure and having a system speaker will give a beep error code to let you know what's happening

Ok, I'll look now
