Possible Missing Component In SSD Slot?

My husband and I were trying to install the WD_BLACK 1TB SN850x w/ Heatsink and could not get the PS5 to register it was there. We tried resetting the SSD multiple times but the expected screen to format the card never popped up.

I've returned the SSD and am going to get a replacement but we both separately noticed that the SSD slot on our PS5 might be missing a component that may also be a factor?

Every picture I've seen of the slot shows there being a green plate that the SSD sits on. Ours does not have this and trying to get the spacer to stay put definitely feels like it's on hard mode.

Anyone else have any experience with this? Is this just a manufacturing difference or should we be reaching out to Sony for a replacement?

Picture attached for reference.

Hi ! I have the same console and I installed a WD 1TB without problem.

Make sure you have inserted the ssd well and the nut is well centered

Finally found the right search terms. The newest model PS5 just has a metal plate there instead.

My WD Black SSD no longer fits appropriately because the spacer no longer aligns with the screw when attempting to install my M.2. Is anybody else having this issue?

I’m on my third PlayStation five. I’ve had problems with three having just the metal bottom and not accepting the SSD card even had people from GameStop put it in and it still wouldn’t register so I brought all three back in employee of game stop in employee of Best Buy both said that the metal bottoms I having problems with overheating. The problem is you can’t find any PS fives with the green bottom under the expansion the latest PS five was already updated.

The green you refer to is the motherboard showing through. The grey looks like the grey blanking plate that needs taken out before the ssd can be fitted.

If you read my previous answer, ignore what I said; I think I'm in agreement with Nigel that you're seeing a blanking plate that needs to be removed before you put the SSD in the slot.

Looks like this is just how the newest model PS5 is built. No need to remove anything. Thanks, though!

@jessdalioness confused when you say getting spacer to stay put? You are replacing the screw aren’t you?

Okay so I have the same thing, literally looking at it right now, I have nextorage 2tb coming in couple days so I wanted to open up and clean everything… anyways i too have that small portion of green showing; HOWEVER, this looks like it won’t be a problem as the metal next to it is raised up specifically and also looks to have small braille like dots around the holes perhaps for even better flow of air between added ssd. Hope this helps.
