How to remove the battery

My trusty Macbook Pro worked for two years. But due to some liquid spills my keyboard does not work. Sometimes it works, sometimes it’s dead. I had issues with the trackpad as well but I cleaned it and seems to work consistently. I didn’t want to come to this but I had to disassemble and try to clean it. It’s out of warranty anyway. The problem is how can I safely remove the battery so I can also put it back. You can see in the picture where I am at. A new topcase in the selfrepair program is almost 600 EUR. And it’s only available in Germany but I am located in Switzerland.

If you are trying to get to the TouchPad you don’t need to remove the battery like before! Review this guide MacBook Pro 13" Two Thunderbolt Ports Late 2020 Trackpad Replacement

If you are trying to get to the keyboard I’ll worn you it’s not like the older systems the backlight plate is also the connections for the fan and keyboard cables connections. So be extremely careful lifting it off!

If you’ve ever tried pealing a label off a container there is a bit of pull you need to slowly lift the label off keeping it intact. That same process is what you need to lift off the cables off the keyboard backlight plate.

Once you get it off you’ll need to locate the screws and you will need to snap off the plastic rivet’s. Sadly, you’ll kill it in the process!

So far finding the proper keyboard for this series I have yet to find it!

Maybe you’ll need to just go for the upper case [product|IF123-168-2

As far as the battery you shouldn’t need to pull it, but if you do locate the pull tabs Apple finely used them on the MacBooks! They are hard to find reference the MacBook Pro service manual which Apple offers in their self repair page.

Yes, I could see, the black rubber (or whatever material) folio on the back of the keyboard is the actual keyboard and has circuits. In my case I had liquid in the black folio. I guess I have to buy a new top case.

If I order this item

Do I need to also order the screws?

@Codrut Popescu - Yes! As you end up destroying the plastic rivet’s. Make sure they aren’t too long as they will dent the visible surface.

I’m happy you found one!
