Several pixels seem dimmer than the others?

I recently got this Sony X90k 75 inch tv and I really like it. However, a few days after I got it, I noticed what looks to be like a dead pixel. So I did some testing and I’m not sure what it is anymore.

It looks like the pixels are changing colors but it looks a bit dimmer than the rest making it look odd so it’s not a dead or stuck pixel? Has anyone experienced this or if there is a way to fix it?

Here are some pictures I’ve taken while testing the tv with various solid colors

Hi @anabio,

Have you tried cleaning the screen using a microfibre cloth slightly dampened (not dripping) with Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available at electronics parts stores) to see if it is just a dirty screen or not, you didn't say?

Turn off the TV and disconnect the power from the TV before you do this and allow time for the alcohol to completely dry. Also be gentle when cleaning. Don't rub too hard

Sony will only repair or replace the product if there are (a) 8 or more dark pixels in the screen (unless 2 or more are adjoining dark pixels) or (b) 2 or more bright pixels in the screen so if it is not a dirty screen but is internal to the screen you may be out of luck.

Hi @jayeff

I tried wiping it with a dry microfibre cloth and it didn’t seem to get any better. I can try using a damp cloth later to see how it goes

But isn’t using alcohol bad for a TV screen? I remember reading stuff about it

@anabio

It may be but I've never had problems using it.

As I said only a damp cloth not dripping and allow it to thoroughly dry, which doesn't take long as it evaporates quickly anyway

@anabio looks like a partial sub-pixel defect. Like my esteemed colleague already mentioned, the amount of pixels on your display is considered acceptable. If it is covered under warranty, and if it really bothers you a lot, I would make the best efforts to return the TV.

@jayeff I see… thanks. I did a wipe and nope, definitely internal

@oldturkey03 yeah the more I look at it, the more is seems that way and I also noticed in near black backgrounds with a bit of the backlight shining, those pixels seem darker than the rest.

I can still return the TV for an exchange but after going around the Internet, is it worth it? I hear people exchanging and end up getting tvs with even more pixel problems.

Luckily the pixels are near the top and between the left corner and centre of the screen so it’s not that noticeable
