My 3ds wont hold a charge at all.

I have a 3ds (CTR-001) that won't hold a charge. I've tried a different battery, and it still won't work. It runs while plugged in, but the instant I unplug it, it shuts down. The RTC also doesn't work. If there's a capacitor or resistor I need to replace I'd like to know where and how to look.

@ri7 post some good pictures of your mainboard (both sides). If I remember right there is a power fuse and a charging fuse. Let's see what is going on with your 3DS Adding images to an existing question

@oldturkey03 I added the pictures.

I should also have mentioned I have multiple 2dses I can take parts from.

Changed the fuses; no dice.

It functions exactly as it did before.

Okay so F2 is the one from the battery. Do you have continuity? You can check the test points as well.

TP22 Battery Supply Plus (via F2 to TP259) (near powerman)

TP23 Battery type/detect/alert? (P4.center) (typ=0.01V) (near mcu)

The other thing to check might be the "Fuel Gauge"

TP38 Fuel Gauge: Battery Voltage Input (CELL) (4.07V) (near powerman)

TP39 Fuel Gauge: Power Supply (VDD) (4.07V) (near powerman)

I replaced the bad fuse with another bad fuse. Replacing that with a good fuse fixed it.

Ririe, thanks for the question. I have exactly the same problem. 3DS doesn't hold charge for more than 30min. The battery is new - although the 3DS is the first model.

I will try the same as you did - replacing the fuse. But, being new to this tinkering, what do they look like?

I don’t think that your problem is the fuse. The fuse is there to protect the internals from damage should there be a shock to the ports.

Holding a charge for 30 minutes sounds like a battery problem, is it official?

No, it is an alternative one, from Amazon. The original died some years ago. So, I should go after an original battery then?

Hello, I also has the same problem and I don't think the problem came from the battery. Bought replacement and tested it with 3ds battery testing app and it can powered on for 6 hours-ish just fine, but when turned off it only can hold charge for 1 day before completely empty. I also curious about the fuse, where can I find tutorial to replace it?
