Kenmore is a popular appliance brand commonly sold by Sears, but Sears does not manufacture any of the appliances themselves. Instead, they source that out and have other manufacturers make their appliances for them. Kenmore refrigerators are made by a variety of different manufacturers including LG, Electrolux, GE, and Whirlpool.

Refrigerator not cooling but freezer was cold.

I have a Kenmore bottom freezer refrigerator. The refrigerator was not cooling but the freezer was cold. The condenser wasn’t dirty but I did take off the evaporator cover in the freezer. The left side coils were frosted over. Both fans in the bottom did operate. As of now, refrigerator still isn’t cool. Any other ideas?

Hi @colton6701

Did the right side evap coils feel icy cold?

If they did then it could be a defrost problem on the left side evap coils.

Check that the left hand evap unit defrost heater is OK. I don't know what its resistance value is but it shouldn't be open circuit.

If it is faulty the part number is 60128-0005503-00

Here's a link to the parts for the refrigerator that may help. Click on the Freezer room diagram and find part #C02A

Search online using the part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.

FYI your refrigerator is actually a Daewoo that has been made for or rebadged as a Kenmore.

@jayeff thank you for the information. I didn’t check the right side Evap coils. I currently have my refrigerator unplugged. What should my next steps be? Should I plug it back in and wait how long?

tarafından

@colton6701

You can test the left hand heater by unplugging it and using an Ohmmeter connected directly to the heater and measure its resistance.

If there is none then its faulty. To verify that you're doing it right, unplug and measure the right hand heater as well. It's good that the power is disconnected as then you don't have to wait.

At least doing this will confirm or eliminate it as the problem.

If it is OK then plug everything back in and wait until to cools down 6-12 Hrs? and then check if the right side evap is cold.

@jayeff as of 12:40 CST today I plugged the refrigerator back in. I did measure both defrost heaters and it was getting resistance. I will check the refrigerator and freezer in 6 hours to see if it cooled down. How long should it take to get to temperature?

tarafından

@colton6701

Within 6 hours it should be close, depending on how long it was off for.

If off for a long time i.e. 3-5 days, the compartment inside walls etc also need to be cooled down not just the air inside the compartment and this takes a while.

Once up and running the walls stay cool/cold

tarafından

@jayeff I had it unplugged for about 36 hours.

If your Kenmore refrigerator is not cooling but the freezer is cold, it could be due to several reasons, such as a faulty compressor, clogged condenser coils, or a malfunctioning thermostat. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the problem:

  1. Check the thermostat: Make sure the thermostat is set to a temperature that is below the room temperature. If the thermostat is faulty, it may not be able to regulate the temperature properly, causing the refrigerator to not cool.
  2. Clean the condenser coils: The condenser coils are located at the back of the refrigerator and are responsible for dissipating heat. If they are clogged with dust and debris, the refrigerator may not be able to cool properly. Use a coil brush or vacuum cleaner to clean the coils.
  3. Check the evaporator fan: The evaporator fan is located in the freezer and circulates cold air into the refrigerator. If the fan is not working, the refrigerator may not cool. Check to see if the fan is running, and if it's not, replace it.
  4. Check the compressor: The compressor is responsible for circulating refrigerant through the system. If it's faulty, it may not be able to cool the refrigerator properly. Check to see if the compressor is running, and if it's not, call a professional to replace it.
  5. Check the door seals: If the door seals are worn or damaged, cold air may be leaking out of the refrigerator, causing it to not cool properly. Inspect the seals and replace them if necessary.

If none of these steps work, it's best to call a professional technician to diagnose and fix the problem.
