MacBook battery dead after only 18 cycles
Got this laptop from a friend, he says I can keep it if I can figure out how to fix it. The laptop is basically brand new, and the system information shows that it has only had 18 battery cycles. The MacBook will not turn on without being plugged into an outlet. The battery will not charge and has a "service recommended" alert. I have tried resetting the SMC but it doesn't seem to have worked. The MacBook is also ridiculously slow, taking as much as 5 minutes just to load the desktop, and often taking several minutes to open any apps. Despite this, the fans are constantly running at full blast, even though the MacBook is at room temperature. I was thinking of just replacing the battery, but I don't want to replace it just for the laptop to this slow.
Is there something else I should try, or should I just replace the battery?
