My keyboard and trackpad not working…

My MacBook was overheating so I cleared the dust from the fan and heat sink. Cleaned off and then reapplied thermal paste.

Now, apart from the power button, the keyboard and trackpad are not working. The keyboard backlight is not working either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure which is the keyboard backlight connector but both the trackpad and keyboard connectors look normal. Obviously the rest of the machine works as well, I just have to use an external keyboard and mouse.

This cable was reseated and now everything works perfectly!

I'm not sure how the deep scratch came from, but it seems to not be a problem.

@rjv59483 - It does appear the latch is missing! Which I suspect in the process of opening the latch the tool slipped as we can also see a deep gouge in the plastic in a straight line. Getting a replacement connector and carefully lifting the latch off and mounting it on this connector is all that’s needed to finish the job. Without the latch the cable will disconnect from the connector so it won’t be reliable.

Reference the two images in my update below

You will need to inspect the cable connections on all three. I’m suspecting one or more could be damaged. Take a tight in focus picture of both the cable connect end and the logic board socket of each and post them here so we can see.

Review Steps 27 for the Keyboard, 29 for the trackpad and 21 for the keyboard backlight connections in this guide MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Logic Board Replacement

As to why the keyboard is not working, I can’t say for certain as the pictures are not sharp enough. But I think the compression latch is missing!

I also see quite a lot of junk floating around which could also interfere with the electrical connections. Using a soft paint brush and a can of can’d air I would scrub lightly the loosen the debris and then blow it a way with a few short blasts of air.

See if you can get a sharper picture of these connectors and the cable ends of the ones that are still not working.

In your image the latch is missing as we can see the contacts underneath.

Reseated the cable going over the battery in order to take better photos... it's now working perfectly!

Thank you ever so much for your help! I think the horrible connector onto the small board got shuffled somehow...
