Phone went to black screen

Hello my problem with my Google pixel 4A5G started last week when my screen went blank completely when I was using some of the apps. It had just recently upgraded to Android 13 and before that I had no issues with it. Since then my phone has has shut off about three times and at this current moment is not turning on nor is it charging whenever I try to charge the phone all I get is this overheating. So far the phone in terms of Hardware is solid it has never been dropped. I purchased the phone this year and I've only had it for at least six or seven months so I'm not sure if it's a software issue or a hardware issue, but it's mostly with apps that utilize motion or video where the screen will just go black. I will hear the sounds the vibrations and everything but I'm unable to do anything with the phone in terms of touch or see the screen.

I wrote this in a comment but i think an answer is better

If it’s overheating and doesn’t turn on it could be the heat cause the ic solder joints to weaken/melt such as cpu. I heard the only possible solution to this is to go to a microsolderist that specializes in reballing as long as the soc(cpu) and emmc chip isn’t damaged it could work. There are quick fix suggestions that could work like smacking or massaging or in more extreme measures like freezer (has to be really protected and covered) or oven method but that’s too dangerous and wouldn’t recommend at all

If those quick fixes do work but only temporarily then like I said before the solder joints or other components are most likely loose and you may need to see a mircosoldering expert that specializes on androids to fix those loose solder connections. Hope that helps

Hi @brytonbrown

Try using the phone in safe mode and check if it works OK.

If it does then a downloaded app¹ may be the cause of the problem. The trick is to find out which one. You will need to uninstall each downloaded app, one by one and test the phone in normal mode between each uninstall to see if it works OK or not. If it does then the last downloaded app that was uninstalled was the culprit.

¹A downloaded app is one that you downloaded and installed and wasn't pre-installed on the phone when you first got it.

Unfortunately I can't because the phone won't boot any at all and it's not charging it just keeps getting hot whenever I plug in the charger so I'm not really sure what to do with the pixel at this point because I'm not getting anything out of it now not even the haptic feedback, nothing.

Hi @brytonbrown

Have you had the phone since "new" i.e. you are the only owner, it is not a used phone you bought from someone else?

If so check the warranty on the phone as it may still be covered by the manufacturer's warranty, so you don't want to be voiding the warranty by opening it up to find out what's wrong.

If it is out of warranty then the phone will have to be opened to find out what's happening.

Here's the ifixit Google Pixel 4a 5G guide that will help.

Hello, yes I've tried getting the phone to turn on but it's basically dead. Can't get it to turn on in any format.

Thanks for all the help and advice I've gotten about my situation, but I'll have to just get a new phone as I've found out the screen is defective and the motherboard short-circuited.
