Is my keyboard connector broken? Part 518S0752

I've replaced the keyboard on this but rows of keys would stop working but then would work again. The problem is slowly getting worse. I've tried replacing the keyboard yet again and the same issue is showing up.

I suspect it's the keyboard connector, part # 518S0752. https://www.injuredgadgets.com/5-pack-ke...

The plastic lock tab on it is broken. I assumed it was just for holding the ribbon cable in place, or does it actually put pressure on the ribbon to make contact with the pins on the keyboard connector?

The latter is what I'm guessing happens and why my keyboard still won't work properly despite two replacement keyboards...

The only other thing I can think of is maybe the ribbon cable is breaking from the bend pressure from the touchpad since it needs to fold a bit for the touchpad to go back on. Is there a way to use a multimeter to rule out the keyboard connector or anything?

If you don't have the locking flap on the connector, that would be my guess. I find that things tend to work inconsistently in that state because the cable can move around more inside the connector without the locking flap. And yes, the flap does put pressure on the pins. Which is why you can't remove it when the flap is down. That also enforces proper contact with the pins.

Thanks. I guess I'll give it a shot. Hopefully I can just transplant the locking flap from new -> old without any soldering.

My old flap fell out and I tried putting it back in but it snapped in half from the plastic going brittle with age.

Update for people in the future... Replacing the plastic flap works. So if you're sure everything works keyboard (and its ribbon cable) and the connector, but you're missing or have broken plastic flap, then you can just replace that part. The link I posted should help you buy it or search with the part #.

The part I got off the link isn't the same size as the original. But you can still transplant the flap from the new to the original. The original is wider by 2 pins. It won't fit despite it being less wide because the flap's sides have little plastic nubs for a hinge that'll get blocked by the connector's left and right most pins. You don't need the hinges and can clip them slightly enough for it to not be blocked by the left and right outer most pins on the connector.

Once you do that, it'll still lock and flip up/down. And solved my keyboard keys cutting in and out issue.
