Short circuit on a KitchenAid classic?

I bought my kitchenaid in a second hand shop as not working. In fact, when I turned it on, it wouldn't turn. It was a problem with the carbon brushes. I change it and now it works, but... I discovered this 2nd problem: after spinning it a bit on low speeds, the circuit breaker trips. I'm not sure what it could be, I've looked a bit but I can't see anything strange. Any ideas ? Thanks !

Hi @kettyn

You're in luck

Here's the service manual for the mixer (see p.2 for the models covered by the manual, including yours)

On p.39 it shows the speed control circuit and on the following pages i.e. p.40 → p.42 it shows the wiring diagrams for the mixer when different supply voltages are used.

If you have a DMM (digital multimeter) you can use it's Ohmmeter function to check if there is a short circuit and track it to where it is or if perhaps there a short circuit to the mixer body i.e. short to earth - any metal part of the body, which causes the breaker to trip. Test with the power disconnected from the mixer.

Here's a parts list that may be useful if you find that a component is faulty e.g. motor armature, speed control plate or phase control board etc.

Locate the faulty part in the parts list to find the manufacturer's part number for the part (not the part supplier's) and then search online for that, to find suppliers that suit you best.
