Looking for Fan replacement for Benq W1110

Dears,

I own the Benq W1110 since many years, I does it job and I already managed to do some repairs.

Nowadays the projector is making a loud noise after some time.

It sounds like one of the fans is broken.

The noise does not start immediately, it only starts after the projector reaches a certain temperature. I can immediately trigger it, if I put the configuration mode to "high altitude".

Obviously it happens once the fans go to higher speed, or not sure, maybe not all fans are spinning from the beginning and some are only activated at higher temperature.

Btw., there are three fans:

(1) SUNON PBT GF30 FR(30 40)

(2) SUNON PBT-GF30 FR(17)

(3) AUB0712H-C

What did I already try?

  • I cleaned the projector
  • I cleaned the fans
  • I looked for broken parts or something else which could cause vibration
  • I removed the fans and tested each fan separately by powering it with 12V - all seem to work fine
  • I contacted the vendor - they have been willing but could not help

Even if I did not find a broken fan, I still think one of it has issues, so I would like to replace it. Unfortunately I have no idea which one could be responsible.

Does anyone have another idea what else I could try?

To make things worse, I was not able to find a replacement for two of the fans, though the third fan is available on Aliexpress.

Could anyone help with the fans (1) and (2)? I assume Sunon have changed the product naming, would be great to get the datasheet of the fans so I could try to find a different one with the same specs.

Thanks@all

Regards

Daniel

Hey. I have the same problem and was wondering if I could replace the fan with some generic computer fans with the same parameters.

The datasheet of AUB0712HH-C says it's pretty much the standard 70x70x25mm 12V fan. It can be easily found on Aliexpress. The only consideration is the plug (4 vs 2 pins). I didn't disassembly my Benq W1110 yet, but I'm tempted to give it a go.

Did you by any chance find a datasheets for Sunon fans?

Hi Karol,

the AUB0712HH-C is different to the AUB0712H-C.

I cannot tell the exact differences since I only know the AUB0712H-C from the W1110.

The AUB0712H-C on W1110 requires three pins and it can also be found on Aliexpress, though I am still waiting for the delivery.

I was hoping someone here could tell me more about the Sunon fans, the vendor was not very helpful yet.

Hi @daniel35428

Assuming that you didn't do this when cleaning the fans, try lubricating their bearings and check if that resolves the problem.

Usually with most DC fans if you gently peel off the fan maker's label in the centre of the fan you may find a rubber seal that is covering the bearing.

Gently remove the seal and apply 1 drop (only) of a light grade machine oil (sewing machine oil perhaps) onto the bearing and then reseal it and replace the label (if possible or cover it if the label won't re-stick).

Worth a try.

Thanks for the hint!

I will definitely give it a try and report back the result.

Might take a few days, I ordered the third fan and will wait with opining the projector until the fan arrives.
